“Hick” is a discriminatory way to label someone as unsophisticated, uneducated and unintelligent because of their socioeconomic status or where they come from, typically the countryside.

The term is offensive and should therefore be avoided. It is a word meant to belittle another person because of their socioeconomic standing or education level. It is dehumanizing and insulting and should therefore not be used to describe other people.
