Minorities exist in all aspects of society: religious minorities, ethnic minorities, age minorities, educational minorities, gender and sexuality minorities, political minorities, people with disabilities, and many more. The term can be appropriate when used to describe a real minority, but problems arise when groups are no longer considered numeric minorities. The term minority is often used to describe People of color so as to emphasize the marginalisation and oppression of these groups. For example, when the term is used to to recognize the disadvantages of people of color, it can be a geographic inaccuracy, because in some places- including California, Texas, New York City, and Florida- people of color are not a numeric minority anymore. Because of this, the term people of color is more widely accepted to describe these groups.
