Asylum seeker

An asylum seeker or an Asylee is someone who pursues Refugee status, but has not yet been granted this status by a State or an international organization. This person would have applied for Asylum on the grounds that returning to his or her country would lead to persecution on account of race, religion, nationality or political beliefs. An asylum seeker must demonstrate that his or her fear of persecution in his or her home country is well-founded.
