Negro

Negro is a dated term that was once used to describe black people in times of oppression. "Negro" is an inaccurate epithet which perpetuates the master-slave mentality in the minds of both black and white people in the United States. The term negro was imposed onto black people during a time of oppression, and therefore is not empowering. Because of this, the use of the term black is much more acceptable because it was framed positively and is empowering. Examples of this include “black power” and “black is beautiful.”
