Emotional

Society’s perception of women and the words chosen to describe them pertain to their emotional behavior. When women are seen acting “irrational” many pass it off as it being her time of the month. A woman is not allowed to show her feelings because then she will be labeled as emotional, or hysterical even. While the word emotional is also used to describe some men, when it is used it insinuates that the man is weak and feminine. Emotional means that an individual is easily affected by something and feels the need to display it. In the professional field to have someone be emotional implies that they are volatile and unreliable. They could snap in an instant and jeopardize the business. This term is oppressive and is used to dismiss women and undermine their commitment. We recommend avoiding terminology that attacks one’s gender because it negates their identity and their capacity to have feelings and opinions.
