Jessie
De Del Sector Social
A derogatory term for an effeminate, weak, or cowardly boy or man. Believed to have originated in the 1920s, the term was taken from the (then socially perceived feminine) name "Jessie." It was meant to shame men for behaving too femininely and deviating from the so-called masculine traits of strength, dominance, etc. Significantly, the term categorizes feminine characteristics as inherently inferior to their male counterparts.
