The term “yankee” was created by the British to mock the colonists in the United States of America during the Revolutionary War. Yankee is sometimes abbreviated as Yank. People from all over the world, including Great Britain, Australia, and South America, use the term to describe people from the United States. In the United States, the term specifically refers to residents of New England. The term can be used as a playful term, but some people find it insulting because of its negative connotation throughout history.

Recomendación

Because there is controversy surrounding the use of the word, it is best to avoid the use of the word yankee to describe a person.
