Pushy is a word similar to [Bossy] in the sense that women are trying to reclaim the term. The adjective pushy is used to describe someone as being excessively or unpleasantly self-assertive or [Ambitious]. Once again, this term is inescapably gendered and used to describe women in high powered positions. The Atlantic commented on the use of the word pushy when they were reporting on the former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson. Jill was described as pushy because she had hired a lawyer to investigate if she was being paid less than her male predecessor. The media latched on to the description pushy and even commented that a man would never be described as such. Other women CEO’s took it with pride as they had been called pushy as well. Pushy is a term that discourages women from asserting themselves in a place of business. They feel that their hard work and passion will be synonymous with gendered insults that will brand them throughout their career. On the other hand, some women are proud to be labeled as pushy and intend to reclaim the word.
